Fall is here! Whether you want to accept it or not. Tuesday, September 23rd was the first day of fall. My students disagree. They’re sure it started on the first day that summer vacation came to a halt, but onward. It’s time to dive into those fall colors and that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun! Add in some colorful patterns and play around with mixing them together, for a more exciting autumn wardrobe!
While scouring stores for school-appropriate dresses, I found this at Old Navy. I thought the colors seemed fall-esque, without making me feel too lackluster, so here it is! It’s still pretty warm right now [well at least it is every other day] so I wanted to spruce the dress up with some more color. What better way to do that then to add a color-filled scarf? I followed our third rule of pattern mixing, and tried out a more abstract print [the scarf] with a more structured print [the dress]. If you’re feeling like you need a solid to break it up, add in your favorite jean jacket!
Obviously it’s important to make sure your prints complement each other [rule two]. I mean — you don’t want to look like you got dressed in the dark. Or do you? Whatever suits your fancy! Just have fun doing it! And while you’re at it, check out our guide to pattern mixing over here.
