I don’t really talk a whole lot about this. So this is going to get pretty personal around here for a minute.
When I was born, my father left. Literally, that day. My grandmother told him that if he didn’t plan on being there for the rest of my life, then he needed to leave. And that he did.
Fast forward to me at age 13. I came home from school and my mom told me that my father wanted to meet me. I wasn’t quite sure what that meant, considering I thought I was a test tube baby. I’m kidding.
Fast forward to today. For the sake of this blog and where I want it to go, I’m not going to get into the details of the past 20 years. I will just say, we don’t speak. I will also say that while I had a lack of my father growing up, I had the best 2 dad’s a girl can ask for.
I had 2 men walk me down the aisle on my wedding day. Those are my two dad’s. Mike was my dad while I was growing up and John was my dad for my adult life thus far. They both treat me well, they get along and they love my kids. I wouldn’t ask for it any other way. I may not have had my father, but I have twice the love. They’ve always been the dad, that they didn’t have to be.
There, I told you it would only be a minute.
In honor of them, and the other dad’s in my life, including the husband. Happy Dad’s Day, because anyone can be a father, but it takes a special person to be a dad.
