create everyday | update your dinner table

We’ve all opened up a Pottery Barn magazine and gazed over the beautiful pictures of the table settings that they’ve so amazingly staged for their photo shoots, wishing they were ours. But let’s face it, it’s not realistic. Some of us have kids, some of us have no time, some both — and that’s just not happening.

Ever since we moved into our house, I have been in love with our dining room. Probably because it has the most lighting in the house and it’s where the family all comes together (with no technology) to eat. I am a firm believer that you should always have family dinner, whenever possible. I like the idea of the dinner table being pretty. I always have. This was instilled into me growing up with my mom. Every holiday, it was my job to set the table. Using certain napkins, certain tablecloths, getting out the nice dishes and silverware. That must be why I don’t use a tablecloth or napkins, we use the same dishes for everything and so on. {Sorry, Mom.} But this is also why I make sure that I have pretty dishes and use them everyday. I want to make it look like a holiday, everyday!

On to what this blog post is about — updating your dinner table. If you’re anything like me and like to have pretty table settings, here’s a great way to do it — with little time and kid friendly.

Tip: Put a mason jar full of utensils on the table. This way, you don’t have to keep running into the kitchen when you’ve forgotten them.

Tip: Make use of your space and build up. This also heightens and is good for easier reach. You can use things such as, pots + pans upside down, soup cans or even martini glasses upside down. Just put a pretty napkin over them and you’ve got a riser.

Tip: Small dishes come in handy for EVERYTHING. Literally, everything. We use them when we make calzones, grilled pizza, taco’s, etc. Like these? You can find them here!

Tip: Always bring oranges to the dinner table. They are a GREAT digester. If they’re sitting there, chances are you’ll eat one rather than if it wasn’t.

Tip: Before dinner, have your kids make out name tags for where everyone is sitting. My daughter LOVES this and does it every time we have someone over.

These linen towels are THE best and so adorable with these mugs as well. Like the wooden charger? You can find it here. Chargers are an easy way to make a place setting bigger and you don’t have to wash them after dinner is done!

Tip: Use a wine holder to bring water and other drinks to the table. It’s easy to pass around!

Try this stuff at home, it’s fun and you can get the kids involved too! It’s kind of like those days when you have a great hair day — you feel better. Use that take on dinner. If you have a great looking table — you’ll eat better!

Happy Dining!

Love, Us.
